“Siteframr” in Development: a collaborative website design & wireframing web app

May 13, 2008 | Published in: Web design Tools | Tags: , , , , , 11

Siteframr Last September I started work on a collaborative website design tool for my university project; after completing that project I set about enhancing it so that it could be distributed and used by many more designers. This year I believe Siteframr is nearing completion, and could be a useful tool for any web design company.

Read on for details on the upcoming app. Please share your thoughts and feelings about it!

What is Siteframr?

Been in a situation where you have produced a website, but realized you haven’t met the spec due to client error or your own? Been in a situation where emails are going back and forth between you and a client when trying to get concepts approved? This web app could be for you.

Siteframr is a collaborative design tool allowing both staff and clients to communicate effectively ensuring design specs are produced accurately and efficiently, wireframes are understood, and concepts are approved.

Feature list

  • Create projects, add users (staff and clients), the usual stuff
  • Define a project’s confinements
  • Discuss project strategy (goals, objectives etc)
  • Define the site structure
  • Draw and share wireframes
  • Comment on the created wireframes via “footnotes” which can be added anywhere on the drawing
  • Clone a wireframe if you want to enhance it
  • Combine several wireframes into a storyboard
  • Share and comment on design concepts
  • Todo’s
  • Message area
  • Calendar

Pricing?

I’m planning on making this subscription based with a free option for people with few projects. As for the actual cost, I’m open to suggestions. What would you pay for such a tool?

Target release/public beta

Aim is to have everything in place by July. Wish me luck!

Conclusion

So thats Siteframr. Would you find it useful? Would you subscribe? Any features you would like to see? I’m open to all suggestions!

Found this post useful? Why not buy me a coffee!

Hi, thanks. I had no plans for API as of yet; this is my first web app and I’m building it on my own so time is short. Of course, an API would be a good thing to add once beta is out.

    We shall see =)

Yup, this would have helped every project I’ve ever done, including my personal ones. I have to maintain a graphics app and knowledge of it to do wireframing now so I can go ahead and create the site structure in a completely different tool. Having this tool would let me get all of the initial work done much faster.
Question, can you export the wireframe to html/css format? Please say yes so we can go right from design into development with no rework :D

A great tool indeed. Looking forward to it. Hope to have it for free for individual users like myself.

I’ll be very interested in this when it’s done. Screenshots not working?

Thanks guys. (screenshots broke when I accidentally deleted them).

Making progress with the system; at the moment its still standalone but I’m getting all features added in and enhancing the wireframe editor.

Follow-up comment. Yes, I’d pay a bit for single use, or a subscription. I would need to be able to restrict access but also grant read-only access for clients, just FYI.

    • Wordpress 2.8 Memory Usage

With the release of wordpress 2.8 some people are experiencing out of memory php errors along the lines of:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 228968 bytes)

You may also be seeing pages fail to load fully (for example the wordpress admin dashboard) if php error messages are hidden. I’ve already had one case where we thought certain plugins were to blame but in fact it was just out of memory. A possible fix (which worked in the previously mentioned case) is to add:

      @ini_set('memory_limit','64M');

to your wp-config file. Has anyone else encoutered this error?

    • jQuery Curvy Corners 1.x and 2.x updated and moved to Google Code

I have updated the jQuery Curvy Corners plugins (both versions) with jQuery 1.3.2 support and other enhancements. The beta 2 version is looking good and is working in all version of IE, Opera, and Firefox (as far as I can tell).

You can grab the latest files from Google Code here. Enjoy.

    • I’m too nice: Wordpress Download Monitor plugin page add-on now included with Download Monitor version 3.1.

It was going to be a paid add-on, but today I had a change of heart and bundled it with the newest version of download monitor. The add-on lets you make a download page using a shortcode; it lists your downloads/categories with full sorting, pagination, and search functionality. Not bad eh? See the documentation topic to see full instructions for usage, or see my download page to see it in action.

And if you use it, please consider making a donation to ensure the continued development of the plugin!

    • 2 Announcements: New Support forum, and feedback wanted for new download page add-on

First, I’ve implemented a support forum to Blue Anvil mainly for plugin support and ideas which can be found here. Hopefully this will make supporting my plugins easier. Feel free to add to the discussions (there is also a general web design forum too).

Secondly, I’ve added a demo of the new download page add-on I’m making for Download Monitor. This will be a paid add-on and it would be cool to get any feedback or suggestions from anyone who would like such a feature. My download page is here. Please leave feedback on the forum or in the comments.
